The 4 Triangle school districts
Wake County Public Schools
One of NC's largest and highest-performing districts. Apex, Cary, Holly Springs, and Raleigh all fall within WCPSS. Strong magnet program with options across STEM, arts, and language immersion.
Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools
Consistently ranked #1 or #2 in NC. Benefits from UNC faculty involvement, deep parent investment, and the highest college enrollment rate in NC public schools.
Durham Public Schools
More variable than Wake County but improving. Durham School of the Arts is nationally recognized. Jordan HS is strong. Research specific schools carefully.
Chatham County Schools
Smaller district improving rapidly as Chatham Park brings new families and resources. New schools planned for 2027-28. Lower ratings are the main tradeoff for Pittsboro's affordable prices.
